The Death of Comedy – The Third Evening
The third installment of The Death of Comedy comes to the Workman’s Club on Tuesday 1st November, with Conor O’Toole hosting another stellar line-up of some of Ireland’s most unfashionable funny people.
Headlining the night will be Maeve Higgins. Maeve is well-known for her roles in Naked Camera and her own TV show ‘Fancy Vittles’, as well as being the host of ‘Enlightenment Night’, a monthly showcase of quite interesting things at The Workman’s Club. She has met Conor O’Toole approximately 9 times. (She also has countless hit shows in Edinburgh, Melbourne, Montreal and other foreign comedy hotspots under her belt, but the previous statistic is the only one you won’t find on her own website, which is here: http://www.maevehiggins.com/bio/)
Also appearing will be Kevin McGahern, or Kev from the could-have-been-a-Youtube-hit ‘KevBall Cv’ (here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAJeS-gkGMQ) and the gonna-be-a-Youtube-hit ‘Yesteryear 1992 – Minister for Ghosts’ (here: http://humourisms.com/2011/10/14/yesteryear-1992-minister-of-ghosts/)
We also have a poet. Seriously, a poet. Sarah Griffin (former Literary Deathmatch champion and one of very few poets we’d expect you to pay to see) will be along to “literacize the hell out of the place”. We promise it’ll be funny too. Very funny. You can see some of her work here: http://wordfury.blogspot.com/
And opening up the night will be Damon Blake, our favourite deadpan misanthrope. You’ll love him, he’ll hate you. He even hates those poor wet people camping outside the Central Bank, as you can see from this article on Humourisms - http://humourisms.com/2011/10/23/how-to-fight-the-power/
As always, your MC on the night will be the consistently-present, and seldom-absent, Conor O’Toole. Conor is Dublin’s most confusing young comedian, and possesses over 30 previously-owned jackets. He has also been described by Chortle as having “a bold future ahead”, by Fest as being “set for big things” and by The New Current as “nothing short of amazing!”
